So we want to present you with this plaque to [00:10:00] acknowledge the time that you gave speaking here at the board meetings, but also for your leadership in school your participation in the band your leadership of school-wide event. As well as going to school you're working quite a lot at an outside school job at Sonic and I know that before you get to Oregon State you have got an amazing summer ahead of you as a camp counselor at the 4-H Camp outside of Salem and that's something that you have been doing quietly. We only learned about it this year, but you've been doing this every summer so your leadership and your determination and your hard work has. Brought you to a great Point as you're coming to your graduation, and we're proud to have had you represent our school and look forward to hearing about the great things. You're going to be doing the future when you come back to visit. So thank you Tyler. Thank you. Thank you. We're going to bring all three high school students up front. We'll do one [00:11:00] picture together with the board bring your plaques with you. [00:12:00] Good evening. So it's a pleasure for me to have the privilege of honoring. I'm all our Educators during this national teacher appreciation week. Although I'm proud to say that we are grateful for teachers all year long. They want to finish our teachers give a hundred and fifty percent their dedication and commitment to our district students each and every day is a Hallmark and I think is evidence across our district. Our district I would say is a sought after [00:13:00] location. We're successful because of our Educators the unending hours spent preparing for lessons and for the daily connection to students both in and outside the classroom. At this time, I'd like to invite Matt Bill Matt is representing West Linn, Wilsonville Education Association tonight. He is currently the clip political chair. Correct me if I'm wrong and I think this in 2019-20 next school year. He'll be the vice president of secondary doing. All right, he's a master teacher leader has been for many years but continues in that role is co-leading a critical protocol currently and besides all of that. He's just an all-around Stellar person and someone we are grateful to have. On behalf of the district. I know you represent all teachers tonight, but on our behalf, I'd like to present. [00:14:00] I can get it. I'll hold it for you. We like to talk to the board. Has a following resolution Teacher Appreciation Week resolution 2018 eight, whereas teachers mold future citizens our guidance and education and teachers encounter students of widely differing backgrounds. And whereas our country's future depends on providing quality education to all students and whereas teacher spend countless hours preparing lessons evaluating progress counseling and coaching students and Performing community service. And whereas our community recognizes and supports its teachers in educating the children of this community. Now therefore be it resolved that the West Linn Wilsonville board of directors proclaims May 6 through 10 2019 to be teacher [00:15:00] appreciation appreciation week be it further resolved that the West Linn Wilsonville board of directors strongly encourages all members of our community to join us in personally expressing appreciation to our teachers for their dedication and Devotion to their work. Thank you for being here. We really appreciate all the support from the board. I seen most of you in my building and that's not common and. Other districts have worked in and so we really appreciate how active you are and how much you how hard you work to figure out what's going on in schools and to support us and we also like to say thank you to all the parents and Guardians of the community and the District staff. We definitely feel your appreciation. We feel your support and we really appreciate the community. And so thank you so much. So map before you get too comfortable you can sit down but don't lead. [00:16:00] I just want to say on behalf of I know there's many of our principals in the audience tonight for one of our topics that's coming up later this evening. I want to thank them for being here and I know if they could all get up and talk about. The teachers in their schools. They would Echo every word that chair fish red and I think I'm looking at a couple more Educators just sitting in front of you there and even a retired educator who has come back to support a colleague. It really is a family and I think you represent what's typical of our teachers in the district someone who's incredibly devoted to their craft their practice their students, but then also it's not uncommon to see our teachers on committees. Here in the evenings doing some task force work or curriculum work. Matt is also involved with Unified sports. So it's not uncommon to see our teachers extending above and beyond and you represent the hundreds behind you who should be in this room all getting these accolades. [00:17:00] So thank you for representing your colleagues and thank you to all of our teachers out there for your tireless work and your commitment so. Bravo. I would like to call up to the podium The Fabulous Chris Jones. And dr. Josh flossy will come stand beside her. So she doesn't feel lonely. There. It is. My great pleasure to take a moment to recognize one of the many great Educators in our district, but someone who has done some really amazing. A specialized things that have increased access and Equitable education throughout our district. Chris is one of those. Amazing people who is so [00:18:00] personal and follows each student so closely and yet also gets the big picture and develops capacity wherever she goes Chris Jones was selected as the Judy row therapist of the year, which is equivalent to the school physical therapist of the Year by the therapy and educational settings conference this year. And it was so well deserved. I will hold my comments briefly. I have many stories. I could share one. When I first met Chris. She was working closely with a student who is at Wilsonville high school at that time who she had known for many years and. Who used a wheelchair to get around and also was a brilliant scientist and inventor and she actually developed and I think patented a ergonomically supported cup holder for wheelchairs. So your beverages didn't [00:19:00] spill and part of what helped her be so successful was the way that Chris made sure every door was open to her and. Supported her courage and her self-advocacy along the way when Chris works with students. She helps them develop advocacy. It's not only though the students that might have those kinds of more obvious things. You'll see Kayla up. Therefore. We honored last time where Chris helped her develop more accessible Stadium at Wilsonville High School in the little picture in between. There's a little guy looking at a poster. One of the many things that Chris has brought to our district our tools that can be used by all students to help them regulate. That's when it's called School moves and I just walked by I was she was nowhere. Then this little kid had left his classroom students watch the poster and jumped according to the diagrams and then took a deep breath and went right back into class. And that's the kind of work that [00:20:00] Chris is always doing up at the top. There's a picture of some of her work in supporting and making sure physical education is accessible and meaningful and joyful for all of our students. Chris is someone that we rely on for leadership for her heart and for her vision, and we could not be more proud. To have her in our district, so please help me welcome and acknowledge Chris Jones. I just want to add to that just that Chris builds great relationships with with students and with staff and and she's determined to. Break down barriers and create access for students and she does that in a way that brings people together and that that picture the stadium Wilsonville High School is a great example of that just bringing people together seeing an obstacle and saying we're going to we're going to make this [00:21:00] happen and Chris. It sets a great example for all this. Um, so just thank you that I've worked in the district for I think it's 22 years and previously had worked in other districts, but I will say that most people when you tell them that you're a physical therapist in the school district, the first thing they ask is what sports team. Do I work with? So it's very educational. I think there are really are not a lot of people in the community that know that the school has pts OTS speech therapists and it's really pretty eye opening to have that conversation. And I think probably the thing I can say the most is you can see about the pictures that I have fun at my job. So it's really very pleasant to be playing with kids all day and to seeing how doors can be opened. But it's even more important that we all are in a district that supports that [00:22:00] and that I've learned so much from teachers principals and have worked here, you know for so many years that a lot of you that I've seen where teachers have become principals and superintendents. And so that's super nice and then my coworker Michelle who. Worked in this district for 35 years. I think yeah, so it's she would has been the greatest Mentor. So just appreciate you guys. Thank you. We're going to get a quick you want to get a quick picture. Chris can you stay for a moment get a quick picture. And while we're doing assembling I'll just say a couple words not only does Chris obviously have fun with her job and does it so well, but she really is a leader. Among her colleagues and her years in her profession [00:23:00] as well as mentoring those who we've hired since she's been here. They talked about Chris really showing them how the work can be done and how it can be done both enjoyably, but also in a way that kids benefit in ways that folks have never experienced before especially if they've come from private practice to a school setting. So thank you for your leadership among your colleagues and for all you've done for the school district. You're amazing. Thank you. This [00:24:00] is the time for the board and superintendent reports and we'll start with dr. Reynolds. You're a bitch first deepest appreciation to educated Educators. Not only this week. But all your every day all year long for all that you do for students. It's just deeply appreciated. Also, thank you to our school nurses today, which is National Nurses Day for their Herculean job that they do for our kids the Athey Creek Middle School garage sale was a big success. It's a fun 400 family event. They're only fundraiser. I also enjoyed the Wilsonville high school art show and the amazing creativity of students there and I'm sure throughout the district. There was just so much fun [00:25:00] to see the creativity that that they produce. I've also enjoyed participating in many candidate. Including hearing from parents Educators and staff at the Boone's very primary candidate forum and had fun at working again with the internet interact Club regarding scholarships at West Linn High School. And a chamber of commerce event. The availability of student internships was featured by the president of the chamber and. At an American Society of Education of Engineers Roundtable at the world of speed. It was a great way to share ideas with Educators students and Industry representatives and a lot of discussion about filling that jobs to living wage the school to living wage jobs pipeline. [00:26:00] I also attended an open house for a peer support recovery program for students filling. I think an important need and I had the opportunity to bring greetings to the Oregon PTA from Oregon school boards, and it's always such a joy to interact with our wonderful engaged parents. advocacy work continues kind of unabated. The I participated in strategic strategic planning and updates with Oregon Revenue Coalition with the Oregon community colleges Association and the Oregon school boards Association regarding legislative updates as well as strategic planning. And as we as you all know, I'm sure the big news was the passes of a house built 3427 both out of committee and passage in the house related to Student Success and revenue and the hope is that the Senate will vote on it [00:27:00] soon. I'm thank you. I know many of you have been engaged in Grassroots advocacy. For adequate and stable funding for education. So thank you for that and just as a reminder the URLs or on the slide my future Oregon.com and organs. We're going ins for students for Student Success dot-org if you choose to continue that engagement. Thank you. Hello, everyone. I yeah, I'd like to piggyback on the thank you to teachers what a fun week. I know there was a lot of ptas organizing food and gifts. And so hopefully all enjoy that the. As I've said before hear the benefits of campaigning is that it gets me out talking with a lot of people in the community. So that's a big thing that I've been spending. My time on is just talking with constituents and enjoying the conversations there. I did have the pleasure of taking a field trip [00:28:00] to the Organ Symphony down at the Arlene Schnitzer. And I'm really in Creek Middle School was there and Lowry primary and I'm not sure what other schools from our district where those were just the two that I that I saw and it was just a neat music program where the the symphony performs and basically the conductor tells a story and we listen for the story and the music so it was just a neat way to be exposed to music with the students. I attended the dual-language night at Rosemont Ridge. It was a packed House people were Fanning themselves. There was so much body heat. It was neat just to see you know, the students of course to see the students work showcase, but also just stop this idea of elevating bilingualism and just making, you know bilingualism something that that we celebrate and are in all of our schools whether it be through our world language programs or dual language programs and just expressing [00:29:00] appreciation to dr. Ludwig for responding to the. That director Reynolds and I had made around Mental Health and Medical Health Access in ways that we do that and so I enjoyed meeting with you without this week or last week. So it is Monday. Yeah, so last week and just learned a lot about what we do in our district to provide access to medical and mental mental health care to our students and what we do around Suicide Prevention and got this great invitation to other Partnerships, and I'm just doing good work there and thank you for all the information you provided. Like, dr. Reynolds had a chance to go to the 80 Creek Middle School garage sale, which was a the size and scale of it. We're fairly impressive. I don't know what the final number was, but I'm sure it was immense it's election time. So I've been getting a lot of people reaching out to me questions about the election questions about [00:30:00] mostly focusing on the bond the budget and school safety is still an important issue for people. So I've had a chance to go up coffee. Constituents of the last two weeks and talk about those issues will closer to home working with my own children getting ready for map testing that's happening now. So the last couple weeks preparing them for that and also seeing the health and wellness curriculum being rolled out and seeing how that's happening in the elementary schools and seeing the protocols being followed and checking up on that has been very insightful and been very pleased with what I'm seeing so far. Thanks just on behalf of director Molitor. She was engaged you'll hear a bit later with the Three Rivers charter school and conversations around that. Dr. Ludwig will have more of an update for the board on that. I went to the Clackamas ESD art show. Which is art from [00:31:00] across our district as well as the other schools in the cock my CSD area. I met with Julie Miller and we talked about parent engagement and also met with dr. Ludwig and mr. Woodley, too. Resolve questions and get more information regarding our Capital Improvement projects and that process and also reached out to legislators about the Student Success and would second that those sites that director Reynolds had up are helpful in being able to quickly reach your legislators. With a message if you are interested in supporting that effort, we have a Karen Lindsay Nancy Mary Josh [00:32:00] Michelle and their support staff Brenda who are nurses and our desk tart and we want to recognize them today with this resolution. Whereas children are the future and by investing in them today. We are ensuring our world for tomorrow and whereas all students have the right to their health needs safely met while in the school setting and whereas children today face more complex and life-threatening health problems requiring care in the school. And we're a School nurses have served a critical role in improving public health and ensuring student academic success for more than 100 years. And where a School nurses are professional nurses that Advance the well-being academic success and lifelong achievement of all students by serving on the front lines and providing a critical safety net for our nation's most fragile children, and we're a School nurses act as a liaison to the school Community parents and health care providers on behalf of children's. My provoked promoting wellness and improving Health outcomes for our communities [00:33:00] children where a School nurses are members of school-based mental health teams, and we're School nurses understand the link between health and learning are in a position to make a positive difference for children every day. Now therefore be it resolved that the West Linn Wilsonville board of directors celebrates and acknowledges. The accomplishments of the school nurses everywhere and their efforts of meeting the needs of today's students by improving the delivery of Healthcare in our schools, and we offer gratitude to School nurses who contribute to our community by helping students stay healthy in school and ready to learn and keeping parents and Guardians at work. Not just on this national school nurse day, but in every opportunity throughout the year. Be it further resolved that the West Linn Wilsonville board of directors strongly encourages all members of our community to join with it in person expressing appreciation to our school nurses for their dedication and Devotion to their work on National schools Nurses Day May 8 2019. [00:34:00] I just want to say I know you read the names a. Quickly there, but we have an amazing team of School nurses. I don't know how we get so lucky when we have an opening and someone fantastic walks through the door and we look at each other and say and you want to be here and and what brought you here and it just over time recognizing how fortunate we are with this team. And in addition to all the things that you described which every one of them does with great passion and dedication. There's also this real personable this with every student and I know we could we have many stories and I just think about one of the last ones where we had a student at outdoor school that just needed a personal attention that only the school nurse here knew that he or she might need and she got in her car and drove all the way hours to outdoor school just to check in and make sure [00:35:00] that the nursing staff at outdoor school had exactly. What this student needed and then I think even spent the night to make sure that everything was taken care of and this wasn't the asked on the part of the parent. It wasn't the asked on our part. It was just this sense of you know, I think this will make a difference and that's what they all do so want to recognize again our great team and wish they were here tonight, but they get to go home to their families some time to so happy National Nurse Day. My turn so let's will get the PowerPoint up. Thank you, Joe. Ashley Hayter mentioned the amazing. Recognition of our West Linn High School choir winning at state which was a first for them in this division. So principal Newman is very proud of [00:36:00] his students and they should be proud of each other and there's Aubrey Patterson receiving the award. There are some videos circulating. I think they're on Facebook of some of the songs that they were singing clips of them. Absolutely amazing. It's like a professional choir that these are high school students above and beyond all that. They're doing terms of with their academics to give the kind of time and detailed attention to their craft and choirs amazing. So if you can watch a few of those videos, they're. I have a short report. Typically I talked about the different events that I've been to that are going on, but I thought I would just do a quick one on a legislative update because I know we have a full agenda. Dr. Reynolds mentioned the passing of House Bill 3427 and what I've got for you and Kelly can be get some out in the audience for folks who would like. This is a [00:37:00] great FAQ. It's kind of a to sheet back to back around house house bill 3427 so that board members and others can see that it will now go to the Senate tomorrow. And because it does include a revenue package to get the additional funding it did need to pass by 3/5 approval which it did and now the hard work is in front of the Senate, but what you'll see in front of you is kind of the breakdown of that proposal. It would be 2 billion dollars over the course of the biennium 1 billion dollars would go towards what's called student investment account and that's on this front page. And you can see their priorities that include class size reduction student physical and social-emotional health and safety counseling and support broadening curriculum options. And then the other 50% on the back is broken down into a 30% [00:38:00] in a twenty percent towards Early Learning and then other Statewide education. So it's a it's kind of a it's a great summary to have his talking points as board members as advocates for this house bill and it's it really is. I want to use the word too Loosely revolutionary, but it really is will change the face of funding in the state of Oregon for K-12 education. So want to thank the joint committee on Student Success for their tours across the state meeting with many Educators and many groups and then coming back and boldly putting forward a package like this in front of the house and the Senate. And then just lastly we still have a ways to go in this legislative session. One of the other dates to look for is May 15th. It will come nested between our two budget meetings. We have our first budget meeting on the 13th where you'll [00:39:00] get to ask questions of Staff around the budget proposal for the next year. And then likely a revenue forecast on the 15 that could give us some more information unless we get some before then and then likely we may have another budget meeting on the 16th if the committee decides to to wait out and see any Revenue update it may be that we don't have to wait until the 15th just information seems to be rolling out over these days. What we're hearing right now, is that while the governor came out with eight point nine seven billion for the next biennium and the Ways and Means Committee. If you recall came in a hundred million less than that, which is what we based our budget on there is some talk out there that it may go back up to the governor's budget or even nine billion and then some conversation about which that would be House Bill 5 0 1 6 there's a proposed house bill. With with [00:40:00] 9 billion in it and some consideration towards the high-cost disability would be the largest item on that that's going to get voted on this week. There's some other bills to be watching for that. We're all tracking very closely want to thank ospa for helping us with that some updates on immunization. But also there's one for school board's Senate bill for one 5A, which is about school board members being mandatory reporters of child abuse. So that one is before the legislators. And then dr. Reynolds is likely tracking this one house bill 2 to 6 3 a which is accelerating. College credit programs again that partnership between school K-12 schools and community colleges and universities with dual credit AP IB expanding and strengthening those credits given to students. So that's a very brief legislative update. There's a lot going on and I know you're reading your OSB updates. So [00:41:00] thank you for staying in tune and and updated. Thank you everyone. Thank you, dr. Ludwig. We're going to move to the consent agenda and postpone Communications and comments from the audience because it's not seven o'clock yet, and I want to make sure that.
